Castlerea Rose Festival 5k

Today my daughter and I ran/walked our first 5k race together and picked up ourselves some bling. It was held in a local town as part of a festival which has a great range of different events. This was the first time they had included a race and it was very well organised. Great marshals, plenty of water and refreshments at the end and of course this lovely gold medal! There was the option that I could do the 5 or a 10k myself, but chose to support my girl instead.

My daughter also picked up a PB for her 5k. I pushed her to do 1 min walks and 1min runs. She was pretty much the only child taking part although there were a few smaller ones who walked it.

The course was lovely and included the town main street, mostly uphill and then a nice long tree-shaded downhill. As the finish line came into sight, she produced a very surprising sprint, totally leaving me in her dust trail and a big grin on her face. She said she was very glad she had done it, so I am delighted all round.

I hope they do it again next year.
